🎼 Track Types in Ableton Live
🎧 1. Audio Track
Used to place audio files like loops, recordings, or samples (WAV, AIFF, MP3, etc.)
To insert:
Right-click > Insert Audio Track
🎹 2. MIDI Track
Used to create music from scratch by programming notes, chords, or melodies. MIDI doesn’t contain audio—it sends instructions to a virtual instrument.
MIDI lets you control:
-
Which notes to play (e.g., C major chord)
-
When they play (timing)
-
How long each note lasts
-
How soft or hard each note is hit (velocity)
To insert:
Right-click > Insert MIDI Track
🎛️ 3. Return Tracks
Also known as Effects Tracks, these are used to apply common effects like Reverb, Delay, or Distortion etc., to multiple tracks at once.
You can control how much of the effect is applied using the “Sends” knob on each Audio or MIDI track.
To insert:
Right-click > Insert Return Track
